Me Hiking in Austria!
I am 32 years old and live in Northern, New Jersey with my husband Jon and our son Drew. I started blogging the summer of 2007 just 6 months or so after moving from Boston to New York. When I started my blog it was a way for me to stay in touch with people – family & friends – and let them know what I was up to. After 1 1/2 years of blogging my blog was inconsistent and all over the place. I had a difficult time writing and coming up with good posts, but I knew that blogging was something I wanted to continue to do.
In 2009 I took some time to think about what I really wanted to blog about and I came up with the 2nd format of my blog: Monday Bookworms, Tuesday Travels, Foodie Wednesday and Entertainment Thursday (focuses on movie, mini-series and television show reviews). This structure made it easier for me to decide what to write about because I was writing about 4 things that I love! As you peruse the archives you’ll find posts that are set up in this style/structure.
I stopped blogging last year after I found out I was pregnant. I was too superstitious to talk about it online and my source for content went way down as all my free time for reading, movie watching, cooking, etc was taken up with being pregnant, buying a car, house hunting in the suburbs, buying a house, getting the house ready and then giving birth to our son. Well, now I am a mom, and I realize that it is not realistic for me to return to that format so Getting By, Dreaming Big is getting another face lift. I’m going to blog about the everyday life of me as a stay at home mom to our son. If I read a book or watch a movie I’ll let you know how they are, but it’s going to be more about our day, my journey to get back in shape and stay in shape with a little one in the house, and the struggles and joys of being a mom. Really it’s just going to be about me and my life. If that interests you then I hope you’ll keep reading!
The title of my blog, Getting By, Dreaming Big, comes from one of my favorite Sugarland songs, “Everyday America”. I certainly “Dream Big” but I feel like I am a pretty regular person who’s just “Getting By” which was what I loved about the line. I thought it fit perfectly with the idea of my blog.
Thanks for reading,
Beth

Beth – I LOVE your blog. I’ve found it to be one of the best catch-all blogs for what to do, see, eat in New York City; where to travel; what to read next; and great recipes. You are soo much fun and inspire me to do more in NYC.
See you soon!

Hi Beth,
I found your blog through the ‘healthy living’ tag and I love your format because I’m also into reading, Netflix, cooking and travelling. I’m looking forward to trying out some of your recipes too!
